DON'T GIVE UP
Do not allow anyone or any program or committee or board or a professional advancement opportunity devalue who you are by making you believe that you must metamorphisize into the caricature "THEY" expect you to be. There is such power and liberation in being exactly who you have been called to be. And although it can be challenging to be appreciated for being your authentic true self, especially when we want to be accepted and approved by the spheres of influence around us, imagine how effective you become at being a change agent by simply just being yourself.
EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION
The way you communicate says a lot about who you are professionally. Remember, you are being interviewed at all times. Politeness and respect often times will get you invited to the interview, and in some cases, get you hired. There is a thin line between confidence and arrogance. There is an even thinner line between assertiveness and aggressiveness.
TELL YOUR STORY
I believe that when it comes to employment, one must tell their story. Minimizing your skill set by dummying down your experiences because of the fear of being rejected will only produce unsuccessful outcomes. Why? Because you have defeated yourself before you even got started. So, when constructing a resume or conducting a job search, I would suggest first, simply taking a moment to extensively think about the duties that you have performed that showcases your strengths, successes and promotes your best attributes. This is what you want to showcase...not the replication of a job description.
